Color Trend for 2013: Salmon

If you've been reading my other blog, A Color Specialist in Charlotte, you may have noticed that I've been blogging about the color salmon since 2009. Since then, various Pantone colors became the trend of the year which is fine. The trouble is, MOST these colors do not convey well into our homes.

Colors like Mimosa,Turquoise, Honeysuckle and now Tangerine Tango are very fashion oriented for the most part and will only be seen as accessories or light accents in our homes. So what color or colors can be 'color of the year' and can actually go in our homes? Salmon.

Tangerine Tango came close but as I see the posts and tweets, homeowners still just want it in small doses. Salmon, and it's various tints can be used in our home.

Irene Turner tweeted this morning about her own color for 2012 and she chose Teal. Beautiful color but again - probably just in small doses. She asked me what my color choice would be which prompted me to write this post.

Look at the Salmon colors I've shown in the above board. This is a range of great color that can be used in our homes from a light choice for a neutral look to the darker accent color for impact. Now you'll either love it or hate but ------- it's different! It's not a typical blue, yellow, red or green choice. It's an odd color that grabs your attention and quite frankly - that's a good thing in my eyes!!

Love these colors? They are all Benjamin Moore

  1. I love salmon Donna, and actually selected it last year instead of Pantone's honeysuckle, calling it coral. My office that I'm sitting in as I write this is coral rock from BM. I LOVE it. Cosmetically it looks good with my skin and I think it works well with many other colors. I mix it with a tobacco green and a deep cherry red in my office. Great choice!
